Check whether any of the trees in the hedgerow are covered by Tree Preservation Orders, through the local council. This includes overhanging trees which are not in the hedge line. A Felling Licence is required from the Forestry Commission if you want to cut more than five cubic metres of timber in any one quarter year. There are large fines for contravening the regulations.
