Keeping the toolstore and workshop tidy is of the utmost importance. Failure to do so creates the problems of mislaid tools, lost tools going unnoticed, and making the place unsafe and inefficient to work in. Volunteers will be reluctant to work in an untidy workshop or spend time continually clearing up.
In setting up, you should have worked to the motto ‘A place for everything and everything in its place’. By keeping to this as you go along you will, without too much effort, cut out the above problems and avoid the need for tedious and regular tidying up sessions.
It is useful to have a plan pinned near the door of the toolstore showing the location of the various tool racks, so that new volunteers can quickly see where things go. Make sure all racks and shelves are clearly labelled with what they are meant to contain.
