Never cut or undo wires while they are under tension, as they will spring back. Always use wire strainers at a straining post to take the tension, and then undo or cut the wire as necessary.
Wire strainers can be used as shown to bring together the ends of a broken wire. Join with a crimp, Gripple, spiral fence connector or other device. Take care not to put excessive tension on the wire in order to join the two ends, but put in an extra piece as necessary. Gripples can be tensioned using the Gripple tensioning tool which is useful when mending fences. Using plain wire for the extra piece when making a join allows greater adjustment, as the Gripple can be slid along the wire.
Where stock netting is damaged or vandalised, it may be necessary to replace a section. Cut out the damaged section, and if possible, tension the two remaining ends together with Monkey strainers. Where the gap is longer than the chain on the strainers, you will have to join a section first, and then strain. Use crimps or Gripples to join high tensile netting. Gripples are a rather costly method of repair, but allow minor tensioning, up to the adjustment allowed by the vertical wires. Mild steel netting can be joined by twisting.
