Many areas will have Cubs, Scouts, Brownies, Guides and Woodcraft Folk, as well as other local groups. Group organisers are usually pleased to have assistance with environmental activities, either suitable for a single evening, or over a longer period. Many activity badges have a link with conservation and volunteering: for example, cub badges include community, craftsman, gardener, handyman, local historian, naturalist, world conservation.

Where the main centres of activity for youth groups are schools and community centres, there is often great potential for conservation volunteer groups to get involved with organising environmental activities, usually based on projects in the school or centre grounds. Many successful long-term projects have been initiated this way, of which the ACCRA project is just one example.
