Many schools run activity weeks for 12-14 year olds, to give them an opportunity to try a range of activities outside the usual school curriculum.

Dudley, West Midlands

In Dudley, West Midlands, two schools approached TCV about running a ‘Conservation Week’ for a small group of youngsters. A range of practical and theoretical sessions were organised, including guided walks on local nature reserves, wildflower and pond dipping with local community conservation groups, and practical footpath work. The week itself proved valuable for the children and helpers concerned, and led to some of the children joining other environmental projects during their summer holidays. Staff at the schools were also enthusiastic, and supported other conservation initiatives in their area.
